Awards in Greek Orthodox practice
Different areas have different variations on clerical awards. Metropolitan Isaiah put out Protocol 01-22, which sets forth the clerical awards of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Denver (now Metropolis), USA, and allows an example of clerical ranks in the Greek Orthodox liturgical tradition. There are no necessary timelines for progression along these ranks.
Ranks for married priests may include:
* '''Presbyter''': An ordained priest.
* '''Pnevmatikos''': A priest who is given a blessing to hear confessions (i.e. be a spiritual father) and is given the right to wear the ''[[epigonation]]'' on high feast days.* '''Sakellarios''': From the Greek σακελλάριος, meaning an official financial and administrative duties (cf. sakellē or sakellion, "purse, treasury"). Historically indicated a priest responsible for sacred vessels, and . A priest elevated to 'sakellarios' is given the right to wear a pectoral cross over his the ''[[phelonionepigonation]]'' on high feast days.* '''Oikonomos''': Greek for 'manager' (οἰκονόμος, from oiko- 'house' and -nomos 'rule, law'). * '''Archimandrite''': A senior priestmonk (historically indicating charge over a large, important monastery). An archimandrite will be styled 'Very Reverend Archimandrite [name]'.
