The original date of the feast WAS on 25 November. It was the Russian church at the behest of Catherine the Great which changed the date to 24 November.
==Commemoration==
According to ancient usage, St. Catherine (along with St. [[Mercurius the Great-martyr]]) was celebrated on [[the 25 November 24]], whereas the holy [[Hieromartyr]]s [[Clement of Rome]] and [[Peter of Alexandria]] were in most Orthodox churches. Her feast is celebrated on the [[24 November 25|25th]]. The dates of in the feasts of these saints were interchanged at the requests of the [[St. Catherine's Monastery (Sinai)|Russian Orthodox Church and Monastery of Sinai]]other Slavic churches, so that because Empress Catherine the festival of Catherine, their [[patron saint|patron]], might be celebrated more festively together Great did not wish to share her patronal feast with the [[leavetakingLeavetaking]] of the [[Presentation of the Theotokos]]. The Slavic churches, however, continue to commemorate these saints on their original dates.
