Our father among the saints John the Hairy, Fool-for-Christ at Rostov (d. 1580) lived in humility, patience, and unceasing prayer. He is also called "the Merciful" due to the many healings which occurred at his grave as well as for the connection with St. John the Merciful, Patriarch of Alexandria. His feast days are celebrated on both September 3, the date of his repose, and November 12, which he shares with Patriarch John the Merciful.
