Kyriakos (Georgopetris) of Nazareth

His Eminence, Metropolitan Kyriakos (Georgopetris) of Nazareth is the Metropolitan of Nazareth of the Church of Jerusalem.

Life

Andreas Kyriakos was born in Chlomotina of Kerkyra on the island of Corfu, Greece in 1945. He moved to Jerusalem in 1958 where he attended the Patriarchal School, graduating in 1964.

Also, in 1964, Andreas was tonsured a monk with the name Kyriakos and was ordained a deacon. In 1966, he was ordained a priest and, in 1967, he was raised to the dignity of archimandrite. Following his being made an archimandrite, Fr. Kyriakos was appointed the abbot of the Monastery of Mount Tabor. Fr. Kyriakos also attended and graduated from the Theological School of the University of Athens.

In 1972, Fr. Kyriakos was appointed Vice-Sacristan of the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem. In 1976, he was appointed abbot of the Monastery of St. George in the village of Bedjalla. Then in 1981, Fr. Kyriakos made the Sacristan. In 1984, he was appointed the Patriarchal Representative to Akra.

In 1989, Fr. Kyriakos was elected Bishop of Anthedon by the Holy Synod of the Church of Palestine and assistant to the Metropolitan of Nazareth. In 1991, he succeeded the metropolitan with his election to the see of Nazareth.
